Reaccreditation of our International School Award
SCIS is excited to register her application for the reaccreditation of the British Council International School Award. This recognition, awarded by the British Council, is a badge of honour for schools that demonstrate a year-long commitment to activities fostering an international dimension in education. It celebrates the efforts of schools to raise young people with cultural understanding and the essential skills needed to live and work as global citizens.
This school year, we are working on the following project topics:
- Trash to Treasure
- Building the Community
- Life Springs Forth
- Farm Fresh Magic
- Sighting Signs and Catching Sounds
- My Daily Routine (Ma Journée Quotidienne)
- Cherished Rhythms
- Market Adventures
These activities are designed to provide opportunities for learners and teachers to learn, share learning experiences, and collaborate to address global issues. Through these efforts, SCIS continues to equip her learners with the core skills required to thrive in a competitive and interconnected world, while deepening their awareness of our shared and interdependent global community.
Trash to Treasure
In an exciting whole-school activity titled “Trash to Treasure”, students learned how to transform waste into meaningful creations while promoting sustainability. The event began with an assembly sensitization session where learners were educated on waste management. Students also visited a waste management company to understand how collected waste is processed and repurposed.
Each grade level contributed uniquely to the project. Nursery and Grade one learners sorted various types of waste, while Grades two and three collected eggshells and made eco-friendly scouring powder. Grade four students showed their creativity by turning cartons and PET bottles into beautiful gift boxes and flower vases. Grade five used fabric waste to create accessories and board dusters, and Grade six took a hands-on approach by using kitchen waste to make organic compost which was used to fertilize the school garden.
This activity highlighted the importance of recycling, teamwork, and environmental consciousness, proving that waste can indeed become a valuable resource when handled with creativity and care.
