Reaccreditation of our International School Award
SCIS is excited to register her application for the reaccreditation of the British Council International School Award. This recognition, awarded by the British Council, is a badge of honour for schools that demonstrate a year-long commitment to activities fostering an international dimension in education. It celebrates the efforts of schools to raise young people with cultural understanding and the essential skills needed to live and work as global citizens.
This school year, we are working on the following project topics:
- Trash to Treasure
- Building the Community
- Life Springs Forth
- Farm Fresh Magic
- Sighting Signs and Catching Sounds
- My Daily Routine (Ma Journée Quotidienne)
- Cherished Rhythms
- Market Adventures
These activities are designed to provide opportunities for learners and teachers to learn, share learning experiences, and collaborate to address global issues. Through these efforts, SCIS continues to equip her learners with the core skills required to thrive in a competitive and interconnected world, while deepening their awareness of our shared and interdependent global community.
Cherished Rhythms: An International Collaborative Activity
As part of our British Council International School Award activities, our school partnered with Fairfield International Academy, Kingston, Jamaica, to carry out an enriching activity titled “Cherished Rhythms.” This vibrant, collaborative activity used music as a powerful tool to connect learners across continents.
Through shared experiences, virtual exchanges, and creative expression, learners from both schools explored:
- Traditional music and instruments from Africa and the West
- The role of music in promoting unity and economic development
- Lyrics and rhythms that reflect cultural values and historical journeys
- Respect for global diversity through rhythm, art, and performance
The activity featured exciting elements like cross-country video presentations, learner-created rhythm patterns and models of instruments, and reflection worksheets that deepened understanding.
From exploring Reggae and Afrobeat to showcasing local folk songs and dances, “Cherished Rhythms” helped students appreciate cultural uniqueness while recognizing shared human values. It strengthened intercultural communication and fostered global friendships.
This project not only supported curriculum goals in Music, Social Studies, and Literacy but also brought joy and unity to our classrooms, proving that music truly is a universal language.
